Amita Mukerjee

Amita is a former translator and interpreter, now writer, entrepreneur and publisher. She wants not to write (or publish) polite novels that perpetuate crumbling Victorian notions about women not enjoying power, sex or intelligence. She wants not to have anything to do with high-poetic writing that smacks of lazy summer afternoons and all the lyrical claptrap that goes with poor little rich girls complaining about the woes of womanhood. Amita wants to write hard, funny, vituperous fiction in stark opposition to the moanings of a self-pitying undersex that has nothing but uteruses and patriarchy to complain about. Amita grew up in India, the United States and Britain. She has studied foreign and Indian languages, English literature, traditional Indian music and acting. She likes cooking but hates travel. She has always been an aggressive tomboyish rabble-rouser, developing entirely to her own detriment, an angry, subversive and pretentious attitude about women’s writing and women’s struggles in the third world that she carries with her to this day. She often writes about her former profession and how hard it is to be angry while owning a snatch. We hope you enjoy her books.

Gopal Mukerjee

Gopal Mukerjee is a writer, imagist and provocateur of Indian origin. He was born in Bombay (now Mumbai) India and was raised in India, Britain and the United States.

He spent a decade in the American South, stuck in the third notch of the Bible Belt under the crushing weight of Mason’s Dixon. For the better part of that decade he was a slacker, wastrel and trouble-maker at the University of Alabama where he became skilled at avoiding classrooms and picking lint from his navel. He eventually graduated, after years of academic flatulence, with degrees in Creative Onanism, Scrotal Acupressure, Pubic Hair-Trimming and Foreskin Topology.

Revenge Ink was cloned, in part, from cells scraped off his left buttock while he stood naked in the town square ranting against an alien invasion led by intergalactic androids who looked and behaved like ‘Genocide’ George Bush.

Revenge Ink is a UK publishing company created by Indian-American writers Gopal and Amita Mukerjee who got tired of trying to explain why they were hybrids, having grown up on three continents. We love writing that is popular but also literary, global as well as personal. Our aim is to sell popular hybrid books and hybrid art throughout the world in a global manner without shunning our identities or those of our authors.

We aim to publish fiction, non-fiction, art books, graphic novels and even make forays into games and film. Our market as well as our talent pool, is and will remain international, popular, subversive and absolutely contemporary. Titles for 2008-2009 will be announced later in the year, but will involve at least four titles of fiction, non-fiction and at least one graphic novel.

We at Revenge Ink aim to take on the high priests of the literary and publishing establishment, those etiolated dotards entombed in their redoubts of ‘high’ culture, ‘perfect’ craft and ‘refined’ sensibility. Into their rancid bloodstream we aim to administer the vaccine of the street, invigorating and vivifying it with the stench of the gutter, the chaos of the colored, the low-born and the female. We aim, through our work, to pay homage to word-anarchists like Louis Ferdinand Céline, Charles Bukowski, William S. Burroughs, Henry Miller and Hunter S. Thompson. To the heroines of the female insurrectionary spirit like Dorothy Parker, Sylvia Plath and Virginie Despentes.

We aim to produce fictional narratives that are crazed, roiling, bizarre, malformed, overwrought, surreal, Rabelaisian, scabrous, scandalous, violent and above all, subversive. We aim to purvey non-fictional works that challenge consensus thinking at the root, that incinerate cherished opinions, that disembowel established paradigms in the manner of intellectual guerillas like Michel Foucault, Frantz Fanon and Gilles Deleuze. We aim to dispense Crazy Wisdom and Chaos Magick in the manner of Zen lunatics, Indian sadhus and visionaries like William Blake and Aleister Crowley.

Revenge Ink is a certain brand of literature, a particular esthetic, a unique worldview. Revenge Ink artists create art that packs a punch and sets a new tone for this age of madness. Revenge Ink is a new kind of business, based on cooperation, respect and value for the individual. Revenge Ink is a publishing company and a label for independent-minded creations in all the arts. Revenge Ink welcomes your feedback and support.
